Vortexion Mixer 4/1/M Wimbleton PDF Print E-mail

Vortexion  studio-quality mixers from the British Isles are rare indeed. DCSVintage restored this Vortexion 4/1/M Wimbleton to its original sonic excellence and dealt with a microphone cable hum pickup problem. There is far more electrical noise on thVortexion_Frontanglew.jpge power line and interference from stray fields today than when Joe Meek and his contemporaries recorded in England in the early sixties.

A pretty face, Vintage Tone

The coupling capacitors became defective, causing volume control noise, and deterioration in tone and gain. We replaced them with Sprague Orange drops, results were amazing.

The unbalanced 1/4 inch phone plug inputs had no ground reference.

The main filters are original, and are doing their job just fine.

The level control on the rear apron was added sometime in its life, possibly by a studio engineer.

The original 240 volt appliance plug just had to stay. An adapter and step-down transformer powers this unit in its new studio home.
